Government says it has backing of all UNHRC member countries

The Government says it has the backing of all UN Hyman Rights Council (UNHRC) member countries including those who opposed Sri Lanka when the former Government was in power. President orders crackdown on underworld gangs

President Maithripala Sirisena has ordered a crackdown on underworld gangs operating in Colombo. The move follows a series of shootings in and around Colombo involving?underworld gangs within a space of one week. The President said has instructed the police to take measures to control the activities of the?underworld gangs. Twenty-nine Indian fishermen arrested for poaching

The navy assisted the Sri Lanka Coast Guard to arrested 29 Indian fishermen who were poaching in Sri Lankan waters. The navy said that of the 29 fishermen, nine were arrested?North of Thalai-mannar and 20 were arrested?North-west of Kudiremalai Point. The navy also seized a trawler and three small boats.?The fishermen along with the boats were handed over to the officials of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources of Thalai-mannar and the Kalpitiya police.
