Ukrainian arrested at BIA with Gold

A Ukranian has been caught at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) while attempting to smuggle in gold biscuits worth Rs 20 million.

The suspect had arrived from India this morning (13) at the BIA when officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau made the arrest.

A total of 20 gold biscuits had been recovered hidden in the soles of the suspects shoes.

The total weight of the confiscated gold was 2 kilos and 320 grams and is worth an estimated Rs 20 million.

In addition, it has been revealed that the Ukrainian (41) suspect had visited Sri Lanka on two previous occasions.

The suspect was handed over to the Customs officials attached to the BIA for further investigations.
