CA verdict on Gota challenged at SC

The Court of Appeal verdict on the writ application filed against Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s Sri Lankan citizenship has been challenged today.

A petition has been filed before the Supreme Court in this regard.

The Court of Appeal, last month, rejected the writ petition challenging Rajapaksa’s Sri Lankan citizenship.

The writ petition was initially filed by writer and activist Gamini Viyangoda and painter-scholar Professor Chandraguptha Thenuwara.

  1. Is the State Department aware of these fraudulent acts (obtaining Sri Lankan Citizenship) of the ‘Rajapaksa’ brothers and is the reason behind being extremely quiet about the whole drama or has he committed offences like tax evasion, money laundering, human rights violations and other punishable acts ?. We all know & appreciate the fact that the ‘Fed’ will not authorize his application for renunciation of citizenship until everything has been investigated to and cleared.
But a country, desperately attempting to get out of a major debt crisis cannot afford to spend another huge amount of public funds on post election law suits. So, my humble request to the US embassy in Sri Lanka, on behalf of the US state department to come out with a simple & credible explanation for now.
