SLFP asserts cannot accept policies of UNP

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) today asserted that it will not accept the policies of the United National Party (UNP).

SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekera said that the SLFP took a firm decision to withdraw its support for the UNP as its policies could not be accepted.

A group of SLFP members, including former President Chandrika Kumaratunga, signed an agreement with the UNP this week after refusing to back SLPP Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the Presidential election.

Speaking in Kurunegala today Jayasekera said that the SLFP has concerns over the policies of the UNP.

He said that among the concerns is the decision taken by the cabinet to approve the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) grant of US$ 480 million.

He said that President Maithripala Sirisena had consistently opposed the agreement yet cabinet approved it this week.

There had been concerns that under the proposed MCC deal the US will gain control over land in Sri Lanka. The US rejected the claims.

The Finance Ministry said this week that the Sri Lankan Government has the option of amending the identified projects under the deal even after the signing of the Agreement.

Sri Lanka is the 37th recipient of such grant funds from the people of United States of America. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. you have your own policy, CBK and Maithri have their own policies. Our policy is without consulting the
party members in grass root level , the working committee should not take such a nasty decision. Five six
MPs got together and taking the decision won’t be suited for every one. They are also correct how can they support
a candidate who is having so many cases and not attending, and why can’t you ask him to clear those cases
    for your good will.
