Officials appearing before COPE to be asked to take an oath

Officials appearing before the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE), will be asked to take an oath before they make any statements. A special COPE meeting was held today where it was decided that officials summoned before the committee will be asked to take an oath stating that their statements are accurate and truthful. The special COPE meeting was chaired by Member of Parliament (Prof.) Charitha Herath. The Chairman also tabled a letter dated 11.06.2022 by the former Chairman of the Ceylo

Hirunika leads protest near PM’s private residence

A group led by Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) member Hirunika Premachandra staged a protest near the private residence of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at 5th Lane today. The former MP demanded to meet the Prime Minister to hand over a letter. However, the Police placed barricades and prevented the protesters from getting close to the Prime Minister’s residence. A tense situation also took place when some women who accompanied the former MP attempted to force their way past the barricade.

Ranil, MPs attend International Day of Yoga in Colombo

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and a number of MPs attended an event held in Colombo today to mark the 8th International Day of Yoga. A mega event was organized by the High Commission of India and the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (the cultural arm of the High Commission of India) at the iconic Independence Square in Colombo today, to mark the 8th International Day of Yoga.
