No major incidents were reported during postal voting for the 16 November Presidential election today, local election monitors said.
Postal voting took place today and will take place again tomorrow and on 4,5 and 7th November at 7900 centres around the country.
The Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) said that there were incidents of posters being pasted and campaigning being conducted near postal voting locations in violation of election laws today.
However, CaFFE Director Surangi Ariyawansa said that there were no major incidents reported.
The People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) also said that the election was peaceful.
PAFFREL said that minor incidents were reported at some locations.
In one incident election officials had raised concerns over the presence of a CCTV camera at a polling centre.
The camera was later covered with a cloth. (Colombo Gazette)
