Death penalty challenged in court, petition to be heard next week

Moves to implement the death penalty has been challenged in court and the case is to be heard next week. A Writ petition was filed at the Court of Appeal by journalist Malinda Seneviratne seeking an interim order preventing the implementation of the death sentence. Court orders to allow all communities at Dankotuwa market

The Marawila Magistrate today ordered that all communities must be allowed to conduct trading at the Dankotuwa weekly market. The Magistrate reversed a decision taken to ban Muslim traders at the Dankotuwa weekly market. Rishad says he had no contacts with Zahran
