Mano threatens to take legal action against cafe`

Minister of National Integration, Official Languages, Social Progress and Hindu Religious Affairs Mano Ganesan has threatened to take legal action against a popular cafe`over a notice issues to its staff.

The notice was captured on the phone of a customer and shared on social media and went viral.

The notice had said that staff must speak only in English or Sinhalese and not Tamil.

“#Peppermint #Caf?, a pvtly owned cafe at #76 Wijerama Mw, I’m told, displays this notice violating Chapter III-Fundamental Rights Clause 12-Right to Equality of the constitution. I hv instructed Official Languages Comm to step-in. Violators may hv to face legal consequences,” Minister Ganesan tweeted.

The Management at Peppermint cafe said they were humbly sorry for the mistake made by one of their managers in his wording.
