Political parties have agreed to a proposal by the Elections Commission to extend the voting period of the upcoming presidential election by an hour
The decision was reached during a meeting held today at the Election Commission between officials of the Elections Commission and representatives of political parties.
Accordingly the voting period for the upcoming Presidential Election will be from 7.00 am to 5.00pm.
Additionally, the Gazette notification extending time to cast votes from 7 am to 5 pm for Presidential Election is to be issued tonight (29) the Elections Commission announced.
In the past the voting time for all elections in Sri Lanka has been from 7am to 4pm.
However, the Presidential election next month will see a record 35 candidates contesting as a result of which the ballot papers will be longer than usual. (Colombo Gazette)
