Tamil parties to announce stand on polls on Wednesday

Five Tamil political parties who met today for crucial talks with regards to the Presidential election, will meet again on Wednesday and announce their stand.

The five parties met in Jaffna today in an attempt to reach a consensus with regards to which candidate they must support at the election.

Former Parliamentarian Suresh Premachandran said that as the two main candidates have publicly rejected the demands of the five parties they will have more talks on Wednesday and announce their stand.

He said they are confident the Tamils will vote in accordance to the stand to be taken by the five Tamil parties.

The Tamil political parties recently signed a memorandum highlighting the key demands of the Tamils.

The memorandum contains 13 demands including a demand for a political solution and abolishing the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).

Illangai Thamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK), People’s Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE), Eelam People’s Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF), Tamil People’s Council (TPC) and Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization (TELO) signed the memorandum.

The memorandum notes the acceptance of the political aspirations of the Tamil Nation, recognition of the merged Northern and Eastern Provinces as the historical habitat and the traditional homelands of the Tamil Nation, acknowledgement of the sovereignty of the Tamil Nation and realisation of the fact that the Tamil People under the provisions of International Law are entitled to the right of self determination. 1. You would not vote for anyone else other than Gota, if you do a research on TNA’s policies.

    The TNA has 13 demands which was prepared by inexperienced university students. The foreign powers systematically eliminated talented Tamil politicians during the Asia’s longest brutal civil war. Sadly, the foreign powers continue to influence the TNA to impose their interests, especially through inexperienced university students. Tamils are truly in a disgraceful status.

  3. Democracy demands transparency to voters. Transparency brings out the truth. Truth comes out of love and compassion to people. So a person who does not speak the truth has no love for the people, and will not do good to them. If a person speaks untruth or lies he can never love people.

    There are 35 candidates contesting the Presidential election. Amongst them I identify only a single Sinhalese patriotic leader, capable of leading the Sinhalese voters to an un biased, truthful and pragmatic understanding, to resolve the unresolved aspect of the legitimate rights of Tamils in SL without lies, excuses and further procrastination.

    A brief analysis of the historical events during Pre British colonial rule, British Colonial rule and post independent rule in SL, reveals the inherent nature of the Sinhalese to resort to violence and murder for the past 300 years, in a most un civilized manner.

    During Pre British colonial period in the island a wicked Kadyan Sinhalese king, ruthlessly and barbarously executed his enemy, not by hanging in public, but by pounding him to death by putting him alive in a pounder and clubbing cruelly to death with a big club cum crusher. The pounder is still available in Kandy Museum.

    British Colonial rule in Ceylon was marked by extremely violent, Sinhalese- Muslim riots, caused by the Sinhala leaders. With cruel acts like hot and melted tar thrown at Muslims. The Sinhalese leaders were arrested and prisoned by the British rulers. Sir Ponnambalam Ramanathan, a Tamil, went to Britain by boat and pleaded with the king to pardon the Sinhalese leaders.

    In post independent Dominion of Ceylon, the Sinhalese –Tamil violence, initiated by the Sinhalese leaders, caused violence, arson and murder from 1958 to Tamil massacre in 1983.

    Likewise, if we glance at the political and historical events of Tamils in Post Independent Dominion of Ceylon, we observe the following nature;;
    1. In 1958, Bandaranayake-Chelvanayakam Pact was signed to resolve the legitimate rights of Tamils. The signed agreement was unilaterally torn on 9th April 1958 by Bandaranayake, because Buddhist monks threatened violence.
    2. From 1958 t0 1972, Sinhala Only was made the Official language to discriminate Tamils and oppress them as second class citizens, under the nose of Britain,

    Post Republic SL is an illegal entity formed unilaterally by the Sinhalese. SL became a Sinhala Buddhist country, though indigenous Tamils were a part of the island, for more than 2500 years. It made way for land grab of traditional homeland of Tamils, And murder, violence and disappearance of Tamils.and armed resistence by LTTE started

    Obviously, there was a conflict between the oldest language in the world, the Tamil, their advanced civilization and their peaceful nature, which very much surpassed the Sinhalese culture of un civilized violence, and murder, evidenced by the following events;
    1 Banadaranayake- Chelvanayakam Pac\
    2 Non violent resistance movement, seeking legitimate rights
    3 Privy council court case against Sinhala only Act
    4 Boycotting the first republican constitution and refusing to accept it
    5 Vaddukoddai Resolution of Tamils.
    6 1977 election as a Tamil plebiscite for independent Tamil Eelam with 65% votes.
    7 Taking the Tamil issue to India for peaceful resolution by Indo-Lanka Accord.
    8 Actively pursuing to obtain rights of Tamils in the UNHRC for the past 32 years.

    Step by step the legitimate rights of Tamils were established internally. No legal action was taken by any GSL ipso facto legitimizing the actions. Internationally, Tamils participated in UNHRC sessions for the past 32 years.

    It is with this background the 5 Tamil parties submitted 13 demands to presidential candidates as fair and very reasonable minimum demand
