At meeting of the UN General Assembly, Sri Lanka was elected by acclamation to serve as one of the Vice-Presidents of the General Assembly for its 72nd Session (September 2017 to August 2018) representing the Asia and Pacific Group. Death toll from floods and landslides rises to 224

The death toll from the floods and landslides rose to 224 this evening with 78 others still missing. The Disaster Management Centre said that over 600,000 people have been affected and over 25,000 people are in temporary shelters or camps.
