SLPP claims Elpitiya accepted UNP “gifts” but voted for SLPP

Elpitiya voters accepted “gifts” given by the United National Party but voted for the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) at the elections last week, the SLPP said.

SLPP member Rohitha Abeygunawardena told reporters today that just before the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha election the UNP had distributed housing materiel and other items to the public in Elpitiya.

Abeygunawardena said that the UNP brought Christmas early to Elpitiya yet the public in Elpitiya had brains.

He said that they accepted the gifts given by the UNP but on election day they voted for the SLPP.

Meanwhile, SLPP Chairman, Professor G.L Peiris, speaking at the same media conference said that several court cases have been filed against SLPP Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

He said that a fresh case was filed even today yet this is good publicity for Rajapaksa. (Colombo Gazette)

Police standby arresting school girl

The police media unit says the arrest of a 13 year old school girl for stealing coconuts in Horana was legal. Police to be on alert for religious attacks

The police will be on alert for attacks carried out against religions with the introduction of a new hotline. According to the police media unit, the hotline will come into effect tomorrow (Sunday) and will be operational 24 hours of the day.
