Anura to release policy statement on 26 October

National People’s Movement (NPM) Presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake is to release his policy statement on 26 October.

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) propaganda secretary Vijitha Herath said that the policy statement will be released at an event to be held at the Waters Edge Hotel in Battaramulla.

Speaking to reporters today Herath said that extracts of the policy statement will be released in stages at different locations.

He said that the full policy statement will be made public on 26 October.

Asked about obtaining the support of the minority, Herath said that Tamil National Alliance (TNA) members have had unofficial talks with Dissanayake.

He said that some TNA members have expressed interest in supporting Dissanayake at the Presidential election. (Colombo Gazette)

Over 40 vehicles destroyed in fire at PSD building

Over 40 vehicles were destroyed in a fire at the Presidential Security Division (PSD) building in Fort, Colombo. The Police said that 47 motorcycles and a three-wheeler parked at the premises were destroyed in the blaze. The Police said that the vehicles were parked in the ground floor of the building at the time of the fire. Fire brigades had been deployed to extinguish the fire but by that time the vehicles were destroyed. The cause for the fire is still unclear.

Contempt of court case on Gnanasara to be considered in February

The Court of Appeal has decided to consider a contempt of court application filed against the General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena, the Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero and three others on February 17, 2020.
