Record 41 candidates place deposits to contest polls

A record 41 candidates have placed deposits to contest the Presidential election next month.

The deadline to place the cash deposits ended at 12 noon today.

Accepting of nomination papers for the election will take place tomorrow.

The Election Commission has been forced to make fresh logistical arrangements for election day to accommodate representatives of the candidates at the polling centres.

The Election Commission was to use classrooms in selected schools as counting centres on election day.

The classrooms were picked to accommodate 40 people, but now it has been found that the space will be insufficient.

Fear of secondary infections as guidelines were ignored
