The formal announcement by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) on its stand with regards to the Presidential election has been postponed.
The announcement was to be made today but United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera said the announcement has been postponed for tomorrow.
The SLFP Central Committee (CC) had decided last night to give President Maithripala Sirisena the full authority to decide on the stand the party must take at the Presidential election.
The SLFP CC met late last evening to decide if it will support Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa or contest separately.
However the party was divided on the stand it must take and so it was decided to give the President, as the SLFP Chairman, the full authority to decide.
The President was expected to announce his stand this morning.
