Businessman A.S.P. Liyanage placed his bond at the Election Commission today in another attempt by him to become President.
Liyanage, the leader of the Labour Party and a former diplomat, said that he was confident he will secure the most number of votes at the election.
He told reporters that the people of Sri Lanka do not feel safe anymore and he felt there needs to be a new face in the election race.
Liyanage contested in the Presidential elections in 2010 and 2015 and lost.
However, he was seen as being a “dummy candidate” attempting to maximize benefits for Mahinda Rajapaksa during the last two elections. (Colombo Gazette)
