Tissa Attanayake extends support to Premadasa

Former United National Party (UNP) General Secretary Tissa Attanayake has extended support to Presidential hopeful Sajith Premadasa.

In a letter addressed to Premadasa, the former UNP General Secretary said that he was forced to step down from active politics owing to various reasons.

However, he said that Premadasa’s open invite for him to rejoin the UNP was a move admired by many.

He said that after careful consideration he has decided to accept the invitation.

At the 2015 Presidential election Attanayake left the UNP and extended support to Mahinda Rajapaksa.

However, after Rajapaksa lost the election Attanayake stepped down from active politics.

Three more people detected with Omicron variant in Sri Lanka

Three more people have been detected with the Omicron Covid variant in Sri Lanka. Consultant Virologist of the Medical Research Institute, Dr. Jude Jayamaha said that the three people were detected following gene sequencing tests conducted at a local lab. He said the three individuals had arrived from Sudan and Tanzania between the 16th and 20th of December. Anusha Palpita appointed new Media Ministry Secretary
