United National Party (UNP) Parliamentarian Sujeewa Senasinghe says former Editor of The Sunday Leader, Lasantha Wickremetunga, never expected to be killed.
Speaking at a rally in Matugama today, Senasinghe said that Wickremetunga had told him that he will never be killed.
Senasinghe said that Wickremetunga was confident Mahinda Rajapaksa, who was President at the time, will ensure he is not killed.
However, he said that Wickremetunga was later killed on the street for exposing details over the controversial MiG aircraft deal.
Wickremetunga was killed on 8 January 2009 while he was driving to his office in Ratmalana.
The former Government was accused of being involved in the murder but the Rajapaksa administration denied any links.
The UNP Government promised to take forward the investigations but no one has yet been held accountable. (Colombo Gazette)
