A Government Minister has accused the Bodu Bala Sena led by the Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero of attempting to build a sub-national Sinhala Buddhist state.
Minister of National Integration, Official Languages, Social Progress and Hindu Religious Affairs Mano Ganesan said that while the Government is building a Sri Lankan state encompassing Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, Islam and Catholic Sri Lankans, the BBS is building a sub-national Sinhala Buddhist state.
Ganesan’s comments came after a tense situation arose in Mullaitivu over the final rites of a monk.
The Mullaitivu Magistrate’s Court today ordered that the final rites of the Chief Incumbent of the Nayaru Rajamaha Vihara be carried out on the beach opposite the temple.
Tamil residents in the area had objected to the final rites being conducted in the temple premises as there is a Hindu Kovil in the same area.
However several people including the Bodu Bala Sena led by the Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero performed the final rites on the temple property.
