Suspects in Akuressa shooting incident remanded

Six suspects arrested over a shooting incident targeting two policemen in Akuressa have been remanded till the 25th of September.

The suspects including two soldiers were produced before the Acting Magistrate of Matara who ordered that they be remanded.

Two policemen were injured after being shot at in Akuressa on 6 September.

Gunmen on a motorcycle had shot at the policemen when they were ordered to stop.

The policemen had ordered the motorcycle to stop to be checked when one man on the motorcycle opened fire.

The two policemen were injured and admitted to hospital.
