The General Secretary of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Mahinda Amaraweera has informed the Elections Commission that Shantha Bandara’s name has been nominated to fill the vacant UPFA National List MP seat in Parliament.
The seat was left vacant after Bandara resigned last month as UPFA National List MP in order to fill the seat left vacant following the death of MP Salinda Dissanayake.
However the District Returning Officer of Kurunegala had gazetted the name of UPFA member H. M. D. B. Herath to fill the vacant seat.
As a result Shantha Bandara is to return to Parliament as a UPFA National List MP.
Meanwhile, UPFA Southern Provincial Council (SPC) member Manoj Sirisena has been appointed to fill the vacant Parliament seat following the demise of MP Chandrasiri Gajadeera.
