Mahendran extradition request sent to Singapore

The extradition request for former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran has sent by the Foreign Ministry to the Sri Lankan High Commission in Singapore, the Attorney General?s office said.

The Sri Lankan High Commission in Singapore will submit the documents to the Singapore Government.

President Maithripala Sirisena has signed the documents seeking the extradition of former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran from Singapore

In June this year the Attorney General filed indictments against Arjuna Mahendran and nine others before the Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar over the Central Bank treasury bond scam.

Later in August the Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar summoned the accused to appear before the court on July 19.

The Permanent High Court issued a warrant for the arrest of the former Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Arjuna Mahendran over the Central Bank bond scam.
