Ranil and Sajith hold do or die talks

United National Party (UNP) leader, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa held do or die talks today in an attempt to reach a consensus on the Presidential candidate of the United National Front at the Presidential elections.

While the UNF has not yet decided on its Presidential candidate Premadasa has begun a campaign to muster support for him to be named as the candidate.

Premadasa has said he will contest the Presidential elections at any cost and hoped to do so with the support of the UNP leader.

However some senior members in the UNP do not support Premadasa being picked as the candidate.

Covid guidelines amended imposing more restrictions

Lockdown declared from tonight till 30th August

A nationwide lockdown has been declared from 10pm tonight till 4am on Monday 30th August. Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that all essential services will function as normal. Quarantine curfew, regulations to be strictly enforced

The quarantine curfew and all other regulations will be strictly enforced, the Police said today. Police Spokesman, Senior Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ajith Rohana said that only essential services will be permitted to operate during the overnight curfew.
