Bangladesh Navy ship arrives in Colombo

Bangladesh Navy ship ?Somudra Avijan? arrived at the port of Colombo on a goodwill visit today (07th September 2019). She was warmly welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy in accordance with naval traditions.

The Commanding Officer of the visiting Bangladesh ship, Commander Zahirul Haque called on the Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Sumith Weerasinghe at the Western Naval Command Headquarters. They held cordial discussions on matters of mutual interest and exchanged mementos to mark the occasion.

The ship?s crew will take part in a few events including friendly sports activities, cultural programmes and visits to interesting places of the island organized by the Sri Lanka Navy during their four day stay in Sri Lanka.

Further, training rehearsal of landing a Bangladesh Navy helicopter onboard a SL Navy ship (Passage Exercise) has also been scheduled to be carried out.

The 115.2m long and 13.1m wide BNS ?Somudra Avijan? has a displacement capacity of 3367.58 tons.

Kerala ganja was found in a vehicle which crashed in Maradana today, the Police said. The Police said that the vehicle had crashed against the?overhead bridge in Maradana. The occupants of the vehicle fled following the accident. When the vehicle was checked the Police recovered?68kg of Kerala ganja.
