PM backs Archbishop’s call for independent probe on Easter attacks

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today said that he supports calls by the Archbishop of Colombo Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith to appoint an independent commission to investigate the Easter Sunday attacks.

Speaking at an event in Galle, the Prime Minister said that apart from the Presidential committee and the Parliament Select Committee (PSC) which investigated the attacks, a separate, independent Presidential commission must be appointed to conduct an investigation.

He said that the information obtained by the Presidential committee and the Parliament Select Committee can be used by the independent Presidential commission to find the truth.

The Prime Minister said that the reports of the Presidential committee and the Parliament Select Committee will be released soon.

He said that once those reports are released action must be taken to ensure the public hear the truth in 6-7 months.

The Prime Minister also said that within two months since the attacks all those involved or linked to the Easter attacks were arrested.
