President calls for unity among religions to achieve peace

President Maithripala Sirisena today called for unity without religious and ethnic differences to achieve peace while eliminating poverty.

The President, extending his greetings to the World Annual Dawoodi Bohra Conference in Colombo, said that the teachings of the Great Muhammad also contain the same message.

The annual Dawoodi Bohra conference is being held in Colombo. The President visited the conference hall today and extended his greetings.

President Sirisena further said that it was an honour for Sri Lanka to hold the conference as the Dawoodi Bohra community is committed to ensure peace.

This year’s conference is being held in Sri Lanka with the participation of over 21,000 Bohra Muslims from 40 countries.

It is estimated that Sri Lanka has earned US $ 31 million in foreign exchange as a result of the conference.
