Remains of Zion Church suicide bomber exhumed

The remains of the suicide bomber who attacked the Zion Church in Batticaloa on Easter Sunday were exhumed at the Kalliyankadu Cemetery today, on a court order.

The head and other remains of the bomber were exhumed in the presence of the Batticaloa Magistrate, Batticaloa Judicial Medical Officer and officials of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The remains are being kept in the mortuary of the Batticaloa Hospital to be buried at a site identified by the District Secretary of Batticaloa.

The remains were buried at the Kalliyankadu Cemetery last month but this led to a major protest being staged in the Batticaloa town.

Ranjan Ramanayake arrested

United National Front Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake was arrested following a search operation conducted at his house today. Ramanayake was arrested with an unlicensed weapon.
