The United National Front (UNF) has reached a consensus on the constitution of the new alliance but there is still no agreement on a Presidential candidate.
Parliamentarian Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said that after intense talks the UNF agreed on the constitution of the UNF.
He said that UNF leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress leader Rauff Hakeem, Tamil Progressive Alliance leader Mano Ganesan and others attended the meeting.
It was agreed at the talks that the General Secretary of the new alliance will be appointed by the United National Party while the party headquarters will be a neutral venue.
However a Presidential candidate of the alliance has not yet been picked.
Senaratne said that several names have been mentioned as a possible Presidential candidate of the alliance but the final candidate has not been picked.
He said that among the names mentioned are Wickremesinghe, Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa and a few others.
Senaratne said that the UNF is no hurry to pick the Presidential candidate and will most likely pick the candidate by next month.
He said that the policy of the new alliance will now be worked on after which a Presidential candidate will be picked. (Colombo Gazette)
