President directs authorities to expedite CB bond scam probe

President Maithripala Sirisena has directed the relevant authorities to expedite the Central Bank treasury bond scam investigation and take appropriate action on those responsible.

He says delaying the investigations is an obstruction of the justice process, the President’s Media Division said.

The President had expressed these views at a meeting held at the Presidential Secretariat today.

Investigations had found that the public suffered a loss of?Rs. 11.5 billion as a result of the?treasury bond deal.

Perpetual Treasuries had been accused of being part of the scam and had reportedly made profits over 11,145 million.

The scam had taken place in 2015 when Minister Ravi Karunanayake was the Minister of Finance.

Racing cars not exempt from tax

The importing of racing cars have not been?exempted from taxes, the Ministry of Finance said in a statement today. The ministry said that the tax?exception announced in the 2013 budget was valid only for Go-carts.
