Presidential hopeful Sajith Premadasa says his policy is for maximum devolution within a unitary state.
Premadasa said that maximum devolution within a unitary Sri Lanka was the policy stand taken by the current Government in 2015 and that policy still remains.
The United National Party (UNP) Deputy Leader was speaking at an interactive session on ‘New Media for a New Sri Lanka’ in Colombo today.
Premadasa said that there needs to be awareness to ensure all Sri Lankans believe in a unitary Sri Lanka as opposed to just having it on paper.
He said that in order to ensure everyone believes in a unitary Sri Lanka racism must be eliminated.
“I don’t like to use the word minorities because we are all citizens of one country,” he added.
Premadasa said that if some people feel aggrieved, those grievances should be addressed within a unitary Sri Lanka.
He stressed that the issue of a unitary Sri Lanka is non negotiable. (Colombo Gazette)
