SLPP claims Gota has US letter on citizenship renunciation

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) claims former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa has received a letter from the US Government acknowledging that he has renounced his US citizenship.

SLPP Chairman, Professor G.L Peiris said that in April Rajapaksa had submitted all the relevant documents to the US State Department to renounce his US citizenship.

He said that the US had sent a letter accepting his application.

“We have that letter with us,” Professor G.L Peiris said.

Rajapaksa is to contest the upcoming Presidential election but some say he is still a US citizen.

Professor G.L Peiris however said that Rajapaksa is no more a US citizen and that he has now obtained a Sri Lankan passport.

Are you really a professor or a bogus ‘low-yer’ like NR or suffering from an acute form of dementia? . Whom are you trying to hoodwink ? There is a difference between a letter accepting an application and a certificate of renunciation of citizenship by the state department.
