Plantation companies submit fresh proposal to end daily wage dispute

Plantation companies have submitted a fresh proposal to end a dispute over the daily wage for plantation workers. In a press statement issued today the companies said that on a request made by Labour Minister, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Regional Plantation Companies (RPCs) submitted a revised wage proposal to remunerate workers up to Rs. 1108 a day. First health worker dies in Sri Lanka from Covid

Sri Lanka today lost its first health worker as a result of the coronavirus. The deceased was identified by the Health Ministry as 32-year-old Dr. Gayan Danthanarayana, attached to the Colombo North Teaching hospital in Ragama. The doctor is reported to have died while receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the Karapitiya hospital for COVID-19. PM claims no move to sell or lease East Container Terminal

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa today insisted that there was no move to sell or lease the East Container Terminal (ECT).
