Kanjipani Imran sentenced to six years in jail

The Colombo High Court today sentenced notorious drug dealer Kanjipani Imran to six years in jail.

He was sentenced to jail over the possession and trafficking of 5.3Kgs of cannabis.

In March,?Mohommad Najim Mohammad Imran alias Kanjipani Imran was deported from Dubai and detained by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).

Imran had been arrested together with underworld leader Makandure Madush at a hotel in Dubai before he was deported.

He was later detained and further questioned under the controversial Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA). (Colombo Gazette)

St. Anthony?s church reopens after Easter Sunday attacks

St. Anthony?s church in Kochchikade which was bombed on Easter Sunday, reopened to the public today. The church was renovated with the assistance of the Navy and reopened with a special service held today. AG ordered to file indictments against Ranjan

The Attorney General has been ordered to submit indictments against State Minister of Highways and Road Development Ranjan Ramanayake in a contempt of court case. The Supreme Court ordered the Attorney General to submit indictments within a month. Ramanayake was accused of making a statement critical on the composition of the Supreme Court judge bench hearing the petitions filed against the dissolution of Parliament.
