SC informs Parliament petitions on death penalty rejected

The Supreme Court has rejected three petitions challenging the private member’s bill presented to Parliament against the implementation of the death penalty.

Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri informed Parliament today about the ruling of the Supreme Court.

The Bill titled, ‘Abolition of the Death Penalty’ was presented to Parliament by United National Party (UNP) MP Bandula Bandarigoda.

Three petitions were later filed in the Supreme Court against the bill.
