Thirteen Sri Lankan illegal immigrants deported by Australia detained at BIA

Thirteen Sri Lankan illegal immigrants were deported from Australia and were detained at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) today.

Officials said that the Sri Lankans had reached Australia by boat and were deported on a special flight to Sri Lanka.

Australia had warned in June this year that its policy on illegal asylum seekers remains tough as ever and Sri Lankans looking to reach Australia by boat will have ?zero chance? of being accepted.

Australian Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton had said that following the last elections in Australia the policy against people smuggling had not changed.

Islandwide curfew declared on Sunday

An islandwide Police curfew will be imposed on 31 May (Sunday), the President?s Media Division (PMD) announced. The PMD said the curfew will be imposed in all districts from 10.00 p.m to 4.00 a.m from 1-3 June. An islandwide curfew will once again be enforced on 4 (Thursday) and 5 (Friday) June. CWC leader Arumugam Thondaman passed away

Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) leader Arumugam Thondaman passed away today. He was 55 years old. Thondaman, the Cabinet Minister of Livestock and Rural Community Development had been rushed to the Thalangama base hospital. Hospital sources said that Thondaman suffered a heart attack at his home and was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
