The Sri Lankan Navy apprehended seven Indian fishermen today, the ANI news service reported.
They were apprehended near the Delft Island. The Sri Lankan Navy also seized a boat which was allegedly used for poaching in Sri Lankan territorial waters.
Straying of Indian and Sri Lankan fishermen into each other’s waters is a recurrent problem as territories on the sea are not clearly demarcated.
State Secretary of Tamil Nadu Fisher Work Federation, CR Senthilvel told ANI that the seven fishermen were arrested near Delft Island by the Sri Lankan Navy.
“They are being interrogated but we really don’t know that why our innocent fishermen are being detained every often. Our fishermen are detained and this trend continued unabated.”
