UAE to improve the welfare of Sri Lankan workers

The United Arab Emirates? Foreign Minister, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al-Nayhan, visited Sri Lanka on the invitation of the Government of Sri Lanka. During bilateral consultations the Foreign Ministers explored ways of strengthening trade and investment ties, improving the welfare of Sri Lankan workers in the UAE, and collaborating on issues of regional and international concern. Foreign Minister Samaraweera briefed his counterpart on the government?s political and economic plans.

Zuma and Mangala hold brief meeting

South African President Jacob Zuma and Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera have had a brief meeting at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA). The Foreign Ministry said that Samaraweera had welcomed Zuma and the BIA when the former was on his way to China and his plane had made a stopover at the BIA. Foreign Ministry sources said that the two had a private discussion at the airport. (Colombo Gazette)

Sanga yet to get official invite to be envoy to UK

Kumar Sangakkara is yet to receive the ?official proposal? to be the Sri Lanka?s High Commissioner to UK, the Pakistan Observer reported. The 38-year-old former wicket-keeper and the left-handed batsman was offered the post by his country?s president Maithripala Sirisena during his farewell Test match which ended on August 24 at P.
