Basil feels Gotabaya will respect democracy

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National organiser Basil Rajapaksa says he can assure the public that former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa will respect democracy.

Speaking to reporters today Rajapaksa said that the Presidential candidate of the SLPP will be declared on Sunday.

He said that the leader of the SLPP will also be formally picked at the SLPP convention which will be held on Sunday evening.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is expected to be formally declared as the leader of the SLPP while the SLPP Presidential candidate is tipped to be Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Basil Rajapaksa said that the Presidential candidate of the SLPP will be a person who has the full support of the public.

He said that Gotabaya Rajapaksa is among a few others who meet the expectations of the SLPP and the public to be their Presidential candidate.

AG files indictments against Mahendran and nine others
