United National Party (UNP) leader, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says the Democratic National Front (DNF) will be formed before the end of August.
In a special statement today, the Prime Minister said that the new alliance, which will be led by the UNP, will include several political parties.
The DNF alliance was to be formed today with the signing of the agreement among the alliance members.
However, the Prime Minister said that the event had been postponed as there were new ideas shared which need to be considered before the DNF is finalized.
He said that following the political crisis last year there was a need to form a new alliance to take the country forward.
The UNP has had talks with the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress and the Tamil Progressive Alliance as well as several other minor parties to form the alliance.
However, most parties had refused to sign the deal until a decision is taken on the Presidential candidate of the DNF. (Colombo Gazette)
