Author Shakthika Sathkumara granted bail

Author Shakthika Sathkumara, who was arrested and remanded under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) Act, was granted bail today.

Sathkumara was presented before the Kurunegala High Court today after being in remand following his arrest on 1 April.

The Kurunegala High Court granted bail to Shakthika Sathkumara when the case was heard today.

Sathkumara was arrested over his short story ?Ardha??for allegedly inciting religious disharmony.

A complaint had been lodged by a group of Buddhist monks against the author over the short story which was published on Facebook alluding to sexual abuse in rural Buddhist temples. (Colombo Gazette)

Udayanga Weeratunga admitted to prison hospital
