North Governor and IOM discuss bringing back Tamil refugees

The Chief of International Organization of Migration for Sri Lanka and Maldives Sarat Dash called on the Governor of the Northern Province Dr. Suren Raghavan at the Governor’s Secretariat today.

The discussion mainly focused on Sri Lankan refugees living in India. Attention was drawn to the measures that need to be taken to bring them back to Sri Lanka.

Sarat Dash said that IOM is ready to spend 6.5 Mn rupees to bring back the Sri Lankan Tamils living in India as refugees.

However he said there is a delay in the process to bring them to Sri Lanka due to some unexpected reasons. He requested the assistance of the Governor in this regard.

The Governor said that he would have talks with officials at the Foreign Affairs Ministry in this regard.

The Governor said that when they return to Sri Lanka, it must be ensured that they will be provided with proper facilities.
