Archbishop refuses to meet any Presidential candidate

The Archbishop of Colombo, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith has refused to meet any Presidential candidate until the investigation reports related to the Easter Sunday attacks are handed over.

The Archbishop had announced his stand at a media conference held today.

He said that there is a clear attempt to hide the truth as all those responsible have not yet been brought to book.

“We do not want the Government or politicians to be using this incident to try and score points but to unite and take appropriate action. That is what we expect,” he said.

The Archbishop asserted that not just the Government but even the opposition has not shown interest in the issue.

He also noted that reports based on investigations conducted on the attacks so far have not been made public.

Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith said that the upcoming elections are being used to divert attention from the Easter Sunday attacks.

He said that the public want justice and not elections.

Recently Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith had also accused the Government of not having a backbone and demanded the resignation of the Government.
