Document on social media on Gota’s US citizenship fake

Former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa says a document being circulated on social media claiming to be the Certificate of Loss of Nationality of the United States received by him, is fake.

Rajapaksa had formally relinquished his US citizenship in April and lost his Dual citizen status.

It was reported that Rajapaksa appeared in person before the chief of the Consular section at the US embassy in Colombo Philip Van Horn on April 17th 2019 and signed an oath of renunciation of his US citizenship as required by US law.

A document circulated on social media yesterday claiming it was the Certificate of Loss of Nationality of the United States received by him.

However Rajapaksa says the document is fake.
