Alleged Sri Lankan “sniper” freed by Maldives returns home

A?Sri Lankan accused of being a “sniper” and detained in the Maldives for three years, returned home today after he was freed this week. The?Maldives freed Lahiru Madhushanka after he served three years in jail on being accused of plotting to kill former Maldives President Abdulla Yameen. Madhushanka was freed owing to lack of evidence. Minister Faizer Mustapha had recently met Madhushanka in prison. Speaker appoints PSC members, UPFA objects

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya today appointed 12 members to the Parliament Selection Committee (PSC) which included five members of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA). The Speaker also named five members from the United National Front (UPF) and one each from the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and one from the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP). Jayasuriya named MPs Dinesh Gunawardena, S.B. Dissanayake, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Mahinda Samarasinghe and Wimal Weerawansa from the UPFA to the PSC.
