AG files revised application against granting bail to IGP, Hemasiri

The Attorney General today filed a revised application before the Colombo High Court against the Colombo Magistrate?s Court order granting bail to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara and former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando.

Jayasundara and Fernando were granted bail by the Colombo Chief Magistrate earlier this month in the case over the Easter Sunday attacks.

Delivering a lengthy order with regard to the maintainablity of the case under Section 296 of the Penal Code and granting bail over the suspects, the Colombo Magistrate?s Court had held that there was no sufficient facts against the suspects to constitute a murder charge under section 296 of the Penal Code.

Eight employees at SriLankan Catering infected

SriLankan Airlines said that eight employees at SriLankan Catering operations division at the Bandaranaike International Airport tested positive for the COVID-19 virus this morning. One member of the staff tested positive for the virus on Monday, further to which contact tracing led to identifying seven more staff who tested positive for the virus. Shortage of chemicals delays results from Mulleriyawa PCR machine

By Indika Sri Aravinda A shortage of chemicals has resulted in a delay in obtaining results from the PCR machine at the Mulleriyawa hospital lab. Hospital Director Dr. Priyantha Karunaratne told Colombo Gazette that the PCR tests were limited due to a shortage of the required chemicals to maintain the machine.
