PM tells BAR Association no SOFA agreement

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today told the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) that the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) has not been signed between Sri Lanka and the US.

The Prime Minister’s Office said that a delegation of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka met Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe this evening.

BASL had sought clarification on the SOFA agreement as well as other agreements being negotiated with the US.

“The PM assured the delegation that Government has not signed a SOFA agreement,” the Prime Minister’s Office said.

Minister of Justice Thalatha Athukorala and Foreign Minister Tilak Marapana also attended the discussion.

  1. Is this SOFA criticism too is like ACSA? We believed Sunday Times political columnist provided credible reports about ACSA until we saw the ACSA agreement comparison done by last Sunday Observer with real documents. Now we have suspicions about the columnist’s motives. What happened to the 83 pages? Does he have a hidden agenda to protect some group? Why did he wait nearly two years to investigate this? Why all of a sudden he came up with this after the Easter Sunday attacks? Did he want to divert people’s attention talking about American boots are coming to invade us? He should apologize to the readers and viewers. It seems very hard to find genuine journalists these days.
