Power and Energy Minister Ravi Karunanayake told Parliament today that he was prepared to go to the Police to resolve an issue over moves to provide electricity to a Buddhist Temple in Kuragala.
The Ministry had approved a request to provide electricity to the Temple but the move was reportedly blocked by the Cultural Affairs Ministry which falls under Minister Sajith Premadasa.
Opposition Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa raised the issue in Parliament today and questioned why the issue cannot be resolved.
Karunanayake said that the issue was raised at the last cabinet meeting and steps are being taken to resolve the issue amicably.
However he said that if the issue is not resolved soon then he will go to the Police and seek their assistance to ensure Ceylon Electricity Board officers are not prevented from providing electricity to the temple. (Colombo Gazette)
