Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has informed President Maithripala Sirisena on the outcome of the vote of confidence on Ranil Wickremesinghe to function as the Prime Minister. The vote of confidence on Wickremesinghe was passed with 117 votes.

Police fire tear gas on mob near Katuwana police station

The Police fired tear gas on a protest near the Katuwana police station after the Police came under attack by the mob. The mob accused the Police of killing a man in the area but the Police denied the allegation. Angry residents pelted stones towards the Police and burnt tyres along the road. The Police Special Task Force was called in to protect the police station. The Police later fired tear gas to disperse the protesters. At least four policemen were reportedly injured in the incident.
