Former Police DIG sentenced to three years in jail

Former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Hector Dharmasiri was today sentenced to three years in jail.

A case had been filed against Dharmasiri by the Bribery Commission in 2012 over allegations that the DIG had allegedly used policemen on duty to assist in the building of his private residence in 2007.

He was found guilty over the allegations and sentenced to three years in jail by the Colombo Chief Magistrate today.

However the former DIG filed an appeal and was released on bail.
