Sri Lanka seeks UN assistance to bring back refugees from India

Sri Lanka has sought UN assistance to bring back Sri Lankan refugees living in India.

UNDP Country Director Joern Soerensen called on the Governor of the Northern Province Dr. Suren Raghavan at the Governor?s Secretariat in Jaffna.

Soerensen briefed the Governor on the development projects carried out by the UNDP in the Northern Province.

The Governor sought the assistance of the UNDP to implement the ?Vadamarachchi Lagoon Project? to address the water problem faced by the people of the North.

The discussion also focused on Sri Lankan refugees living in India, the Media Unit of Northern Province Governor said.

The Governor requested the UN to assist in bringing back the refugees to Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)

Public warned against providing refuge to Covid patients

The public have been warned action will be taken against those aiding and providing refuge to Covid infected persons who escape from treatment facilities or self-isolation. Murder suspect shot dead while in Police custody

A murder suspect was shot dead in Veyangoda while in Police custody today. Police Spokesman, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ajith Rohana said that the suspect was shot dead during an “incident” involving the Police this morning. He said that the suspect, identified as 37-year-old Nishantha Kumarasiri, was injured in the incident and was admitted to hospital.
